Adult Services Assistant Librarian (Essex, VT)

The Town of Essex, Vermont is seeking an Adult Services Assistant Librarian to assist in creating a welcoming and responsive atmosphere of service for patrons of all ages. The Assistant Librarian performs reference and reader’s advisory services, assists patrons in their use of the library catalog and computers, develops and delivers library programs for patrons, and contributes to collection management. In addition, the Assistant Librarian does all of the cataloging and processing of donated and purchased materials in support of the library collection. The Assistant Librarian manages and orders all supplies needed for day to day services of the library, and provides exceptional patron-oriented service to all library patrons.

This position works under the direction of the Library Director and works in accordance with various town policies. The regular work schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-5pm. Thursday from 5pm-8pm and every other Saturday from 9am-2pm.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Library Sciences, English, Business or a related field. Masters in Library Sciences is preferred. Candidate must have 2-3 years of successful library experience, strong customer service skills, and strong computer and typing skills. Previous experience in VOCAL library software is a plus!

This position is a union position with a minimum starting salary of $19.58/hour, depending on relevant experience.
