Business/Science Librarian (8-month sabbatical replacement position)

The University of Vermont Libraries seeks a flexible and creative public service-oriented professional to serve in the full-time sabbatical replacement position of Business/Science Librarian (Visiting Library Assistant Professor) for the 8-month period of Sept. 2, 2008 through May 1, 2009.

Reporting to the Director of Information & Instruction Services in Bailey/Howe Library, this position participates in the full array of general and specialized reference assistance offered by the department, including desk service; telephone, e-mail, and IM reference interactions; in-depth research consultations; and library tours and general orientation sessions. Other duties include assuming primary responsibility for the development, promotion, and delivery of programs and services for students and faculty in business and science disciplines; teaching course-specific library instruction sessions as part of an active information literacy instruction program; and collaborating with librarians in the Dana Medical Library as appropriate to meet library researcher needs.

The university is located in the thriving urban center of Burlington and is home to 10,000 undergraduate, graduate, and medical school students and more than 1,150 full- and part-time faculty.

Required Qualifications: MLS degree from an ALA accredited graduate program or international equivalent; previous experience providing library services to researchers in business and/or sciences; broad exposure to online resources and information technologies found in academic libraries; strong public service orientation; demonstrated interest and/or experience in classroom teaching; ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment; and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications: undergraduate degree in either business or one of the biological or physical sciences
