Youth Services Librarian – Brownell Library (Essex Junction, VT)

Brownell Library seeks a collaborative, creative, inspired and professional Youth Librarian to join our team. This position directly oversees coordinating, developing, implementing and evaluating innovative services and collection development for infants through teens. Other responsibilities include supervision of support staff and volunteers, covering public desks, outreach to area organizations, department budget management, publicity, and assisting patrons with resources – both print and digital.
Hours include some nights and weekends. Masters in Library Science, plus three years of experience working with youth, preferably in a library environment, or a combination of education and experience desired. Supervisory experience preferred. This position is full time with excellent benefits.

Our Summit Street Elementary School is seeking a full-time long-term substitute Library Media Specialist. The position is available beginning immediately through mid January, 2017. The position shall involve supporting students and teachers in achieving the high national and state standards represented in local curriculum as well as the Common Core Standards; providing a full-service 21st century library/media center that incorporates both books and contemporary technological tools; and responding to the needs of all students at a variety of reading levels through the development of individual learning plans. Volunteer Library Management Advisor – El Rosario, Honduras

Americans Caring Teaching Sharing (ACTS-Honduras), a New England organization that for thirty years has done community development work in rural Honduras. ACTS has helped the village of El Rosario, in the Department of Yoro, to establish a small library, the Doctor Dean Biblioteca, that serves El Rosario as a lending library, and sends books to schools in thirteen neighboring villages in this remote, mountainous region. The library is managed by a villager, and would benefit from professional advice in management and operation.

VLA Graduate Student Scholarship

The Vermont Library Association Board wishes to promote professional librarianship in Vermont and to encourage involvement in professional development within the state. In support of this, VLA has created a scholarship for those enrolled in a Graduate library degree program.

VLA will award up to $1500 to the selected, qualified applicant pursuing an MLS or MLIS degree.  The check will go directly to the recipient’s educational program.

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Must be enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program
  • Must be an active individual VLA member (institutional memberships are not eligible)
  • Must live in Vermont and/or work in a Vermont library and
  • Must not have received a scholarship from VLA in the past 2 years.

The scholarship will be administered by the Vermont Library Association Scholarship Committee. The committee reserves the right not to award a scholarship if qualified applicants are not found. Priority will be given based on monetary need and potential for involvement, leadership and commitment to Vermont Libraries.

The deadline for applications will be November 15th each year with the scholarship sent to the institution for the Spring Semester. Winners will be notified on December 15th and a check will be mailed after January 1st.
