Employment Resources
Welcome to the Employment Resources page for the Vermont Library Association. Please click through to the opportunities you are interested in below:
- Job Opportunities – Follow this link to official job postings around the state of Vermont and occasionally border towns in neighboring states. Please keep in mind that these postings do not represent all jobs available in Vermont libraries, but rather the job opportunities that we have been notified about. If you would like to post a job opportunity, please contact Helen Linda, at vermontlibrarieswebmaster@gmail.com with the the library name, location, contact info, and a full job description. Please feel free to click through to the page to see how other libraries have formatted their opportunities.
- Sign Up for the Vermont Library Substitute Pool – If you would like the opportunity to sub or temp at a library in your area, or are seeking freelance work or volunteer opportunities, simply fill out the VLSP sign up form. This form populates a document, maintained by a joint VLA/VCAL/GMLC volunteer, with your interests and contact information. Your entry will be available for one year to libraries looking to fill a need. We particularly encourage current library staff and volunteers interested in exploring work in other kinds of libraries to sign up for the sub pool. For example, if you are a school librarian interested in finding out what it might be like working with children or teens in a public library setting, the substitute pool could be an excellent opportunity for you.
- Volunteer Opportunities – Volunteering is an excellent way to increase your experience and establish a network in the library community. Check here to see what volunteer opportunities are available in libraries. Most opportunities listed here may be for special projects. Be sure to contact your local library to ask about other volunteer work.
- Post a Job Opportunity ad – Libraries with an official job ad should post the ad on the Job Opportunities resource page. Please note that we try to keep this site local, so please send only jobs within Vermont or within a one hour commute from our border. For regional jobs we have a link to NELA Jobs and for national jobs we have a link to ALA. If you would like to post a job opportunity, please contact Helen Linda, at vermontlibrarieswebmaster@gmail.com with the the library name, location, contact info, and a full job description. If the job description is from another website, like a city or school human resources department, remember to include it. This is especially true if you are doing a brief ad here but the official posting is more detailed. Please feel free to click through to the Job Opportunities page to see how other libraries have formatted their opportunities.
- Access to the Vermont Library Substitute Pool list – Libraries looking for a volunteer, project temp, or other such staffing need, are able to request a single log in to access the data. To do so, please contact our Vermont Library Substitute Pool volunteer, Helen Linda, at vermontlibrarieswebmaster@gmail.com with the name and email address of your library representative.
- Post a Volunteer Opportunities ad – Libraries seeking volunteers should post their needs on the Volunteer Opportunities resource page. If you are a library who would like to post a volunteer opportunity, please contact Helen Linda, at vermontlibrarieswebmaster@gmail.com with the library name, location, contact info, and a full description of what work is sought. Please feel free to click through to the Volunteer Opportunities page to see how other libraries have formatted their opportunities.
While we will happily put your posts into the world, we strongly encourage members of the library community to learn to create their own posts on the VLA website. Feel free to have a look at our instruction document, WordPress Instructions for VLA Website Editors (pdf). If you do not already have editor access to the website and would like it, please feel free to contact us and we’ll set it up for you!
