Head of Children’s Services – Derry Public Library (Derry, NH)

Derry Public Library is seeking a proactive professional to Head the lively Children’s Services Department. This position is an integral part of the Management Team, and, as such, candidates are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of all library functions, and a commitment to collaboration with other department heads and staff for the development and promotion of the library. The ability to plan and implement short- and long-range goals is essential. Required are an MLS degree and 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience. The Head of Children’s Services schedules and supervises several part-time staff, and reports directly to the Director.

This high energy position is responsible for effective children’s reference services; collection development for pre-literacy through middle school, plus parenting and teacher’s collections; budget management; programming for all ages from early childhood through middle school (working in collaboration with the YA Librarian); and public relations activities, including outreach to the community. Demonstrated knowledge of trends in library services for all ages, technology applications, and effective children’s services techniques is essential. Imagination and a sense of humor are valued qualities! Multitasking capabilities are invaluable.

Derry Public Library serves the Town of Derry, the fourth largest community in New Hampshire, with a population base of about 35,000. The Library has a staff of 30 full and part time employees. The position offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.
