Librarian and Media Specialist – Central Elementary School (Bellows Falls, VT)

Central Elementary School, a K-4 public school serving the children of Rockingham, is in search of a librarian media specialist for the 2017-2018 school year. This is a full-time position. The viable applicant will need to hold a library media specialist educator endorsement from the state of Vermont or be certifiable. The ability to instruct, collaborate with, and support students and staff are critical skills necessary for this position. Our library and librarian play a critical role in the daily lives of our students. The librarian will meet weekly with each of the school’s ten classes (K – 4), as well as host special collaborative periods, as requested by classroom teachers. In the role of media specialist, this person will also be the staff member primarily responsible for the school’s website.

General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that the school library is an essential element of the school by fostering a creative and welcoming environment.
  • Manages procedures for the acquisition, collection development, organization, maintenance, circulation and inventory of print and electronic resources for the library.
  • Collaborates with and supports teachers in the implementation of classroom collaboration with district librarians and technology teachers, promotes and teaches information literacy through print, library databases and the Internet.
  • Evaluates and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
  • Promotes the ethical use of information: copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property.
  • Plays a critical role in the maintenance of the school’s website, particularly around school news

Job Requirements
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
  • Vermont library media specialist educator endorsement or certifiable
