Ilsley Public Library, located in Middlebury, Vermont, invites applications for the position of Library Director. About Ilsley Public Library
Established in 1848, Ilsley Public Library serves Middlebury, Vermont and its surrounding towns with a staff of three professional librarians, nine staff members, and many dedicated volunteers. Its collection consists of more than 80,000 items with an annual circulation of over 160,000 and a total operating budget of over $700,000. It is consistently ranked among the top public libraries in the state for its high program attendance and overall number of visits. The library will soon be embarking upon an ambitious capital campaign to raise fund for renovation and expansion. Ilsley works in close collaboration with Middlebury Community Television, Middlebury College, town government, area schools, and a variety of business and not-for-profit community partners.
Middlebury was chartered in 1761 and settled just after the end of the Revolutionary War. Middlebury serves as the shire town of Addison County and the beautiful village area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Works collaboratively with the library board, library staff, and town governance to plan, organize, and manage all aspects of library services.
Directs the daily operations of the library and oversees the creation and implementation of library services and collections that meet the changing needs of town residents.
Prepares and administers the annual budget and serves as a spokesperson in order to increase support and funding through grants, foundations, and community sources.
Supervises staff in order to provide the highest quality library services to the community; implements effective procedures for hiring, training, and evaluation of personnel; models an institutional culture that embraces change and is committed to professional development and lifelong learning.
Ensures that library facilities are safe, pleasant, and reflect changing community needs and aspirations. Oversees the planning, design, renovation, and construction of library facilities. Raises funds needed to renovate and expand.
Establishes and conducts public relations, communications, and innovative outreach programs that engender goodwill and promote library services to Middlebury and its surrounding communities.
The successful candidate will exhibit flexibility, creativity, and an enthusiasm to adapt to and help shape a continuously evolving work environment. She/he will have a Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited school and a proven record in library management and supervision.

Salary and Benefits
The established range for this position is $56,000-$68,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is full-time and provides a comprehensive benefits package. First review of dossiers will begin September 30th. The anticipated start date will be January 3rd 2017.
