			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The South Burlington Community Library is seeking a dynamic and energetic Children’s Librarian to perform professional services in planning, implementing and managing a comprehensive program of children’s library services.  This is a part-time (29 hrs/week) position.  Work includes travel to community areas for outreach activities and driving the bookmobile during the summer months.</p>
<p><span id="more-1507"></span>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p>
<p>1.	Works collaboratively with the Library Director and other personnel as necessary to plan, schedules, organize, implements, and oversee children’s library services and programs.<br />
2.	Selects parenting information resources and plans parenting programs.<br />
3.	Assists children and their parents in the location of print and non-print material for school assignments and recreational reading.<br />
4.	Maintains the library’s children’s collection in proper order; directs students, employees and volunteers in shelving books and shelf-reading the collection.<br />
5.	Works collaboratively with local school teachers and librarians, homeschool parents and conducts outreach activities to schools, daycares, pre-schools, and other organizations.  Plans, conducts, and organizes Bookmobile visits during the summer months to area neighborhoods and summer children’s programs.<br />
6.	Assists Library Director in securing grants for Children’s Programs, and participates in fundraising efforts.<br />
7.	Reviews and selects materials for purchase for the Children’s Collection, the Bookmobile, and Parenting collection.<br />
8.	Uses the computerized system to check materials in and out at the Circulation Desk, registers new patrons.<br />
9.	Assists Library Director with grant-writing and fundraising activities.<br />
10.	Answers questions and responds to inquiries for information from the general public, directly and by telephone, providing information and making referrals as necessary.<br />
11.	Assists patrons with reading selections, research and reference questions using a variety of sources – books, online periodical databases, the Internet, CD-ROMS, etc. and in the use of library computers and equipment.<br />
12.	Enforces library rules and regulations in an appropriate manner.<br />
13.	Prepares books and A-V materials for circulation using the automated system to generate MARC cataloging records and performs other operations necessary to prepare books for circulation.<br />
14.	Assists in keeping the community at large, library patrons and staff informed about current library children’s programs and leisure reading resources.<br />
15.	Performs routine Circulation Desk duties as necessary.<br />
16.	Supports the coordination of activities between all the staff and other departments within the City and performs other necessary tasks or functions as is necessary to accomplish City and Department goals and objectives.</p>
<p>KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:</p>
<p>1.	Bachelor degree, two years experience in a library or a combination of comparable education and experience.<br />
2.	Prior experience in children’s library program planning and a broad knowledge of library administration and operations, children’s books and non-print materials.<br />
3.	Demonstrated ability to relate appropriately to library patrons of all ages;<br />
4.	Demonstrated ability to effectively answer patron questions and phone inquiries.<br />
5.	Working knowledge of library procedures and reference materials, including all systems and procedures for maintenance of library collection.<br />
6.	Demonstrated ability to use computers and library related software and applications.<br />
7.	Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and the general public.<br />
8.	Demonstrated ability to deal respectfully and successfully with patrons, including students of varying age, members of the general public, City and School personnel, Trustees and various outside organizations.<br />
9.	Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.</p>
<p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p>
<p>Exerts frequent physical effort in performing duties, including common physical demands associated with working closely with children of all ages, standing at the Circulation Desk for two hour shifts; bending, kneeling, and reaching overhead while shelving books, carrying and lifting up to 40 pounds, and pushing carts.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Tenure-track position to begin July 2010</p>
<p>Mason Library of Keene State College is seeking an Information Literacy Librarian to provide leadership in the coordination, expansion, and promotion of the library’s existing information literacy instruction program. Under the administrative review of the Library Dean, this librarian has primary responsibility in collaborating with library faculty for designing library instruction curriculum to enhance lesson plans, design online learning materials, and analyze and present alternative models of information literacy instruction. This position serves as liaison to the Education Department.</p>
<p><span id="more-1354"></span></p>
<p>All library faculty participate in reference service and weekend rotation, serve as liaison to a number of disciplines, provide information literacy instruction, and monitor collection development in those areas.  Mason Library faculty provides mentoring for all new faculty members. This is a tenure track entry-level faculty position and has all responsibilities associated with faculty rank and tenure. Salary at the rank of Assistant Professor will be based on Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement, and was at $55,380 minimum in fall 2008.</p>
<p>Qualifications Required: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution, with 1-3 years of library instruction/information literacy experience or comparable classroom experience.  Coordination and leadership experience with instruction in an academic environment. Knowledge of learning theories and pedagogies used in higher education. Experience and practice with instructional design. Demonstrated experience or training in the creation of online tutorials. Experience or internship providing reference services in an academic environment. Experience working in a collaborative, team based environment. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of issues, trends and technologies in information literacy. Desired: 5 years of library information literacy instruction experience. Participation in ACRL Immersion Program (Teacher Track and/or Program Track). Evidence of professional involvement such as LOEX or ACRL Instruction Section. Experience with Innovative Interfaces library software. Knowledge of course management systems used in higher education. Additional advanced degree. Reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages.</p>

<p><strong>Supervision<br />
</strong></p>
<p>The Librarian is appointed by and responsible to the Board of Trustees.</p>
<p><strong>Major Responsibilities and Duties include:</strong></p>
<p>Service to the community, support and execution of library policy, spending budgeted funds, supervising and training staff and volunteers, formal reporting of library activities to the Board of Trustees, the town, and the  State of Vermont. Creating and executing library programs  for the public from children’s  book talks to adult venues. Full details of duties are available upon request.  Other duties as assigned.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<p>A Bachelor’s Degree is acceptable if willing to earn certification as a public librarian within 5 years. Proficiency with computers, software, and the internet are necessary. Imagination, a creative approach to problem-solving and a sincere interest in people are essential. Self-motivation, an ability to follow through with goals while completing a diversified job description in a timely manner is also essential.</p>

<li>Processes overdue notices and bills on the automated system.</li>

<p>KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.)</p>

<p>WORKING CONDITIONS: (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.)</p>
<p>Internal- Work is normally performed in climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level fluctuates and includes sounds of children and families and normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.).  No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties.  Work involves interaction with members of the general public who may be unruly, impolite, etc., addressing behavioral issues of high school students and children of varying ages and risks associated with adolescents.  Work occasionally involves exposure to safety concerns typically associated with dealing or addressing members of the general public in a community setting.</p>
<p>External- Limited external work may be required on occasion.</p>
<p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (The physical effort generally associated with this position.)</p>
<p>Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most duties are performed from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading detailed materials and computer screen. Exerts some physical effort in performing duties, including standing at the Circulation Desk for two hour shifts; bending, kneeling, and reaching overhead while shelving books, carrying and lifting up to 40  pounds and pushing book carts.  Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboards at a moderate skill level. Repetitive motion injuries may occur.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://gmlc.wordpress.com/">Green Mountain Library Consortium</a> (GMLC) is seeking a Development Coordinator for a short-term stipended position.</p>
<p>The Development Coordinator is responsible for researching funding sources and grants that the GMLC could apply for to provide funding for digital content, staffing &#038; benefits and technical support.  Ideal grants would be multi-year  in the realm of $200,000 &#8211; $250,000.  These may include LSTA grants, funding from the stimulus package etc. In addition, the Development Coordinator will write at least one grant for $10,000 &#8211; $20,000 for digital content.  Successful applicant will be independent, smart, highly self-motivated and forward thinking.  Familiarity with library service philosophy, digital media and open source software a plus.  </p>
<p>The GMLC is looking for someone who can get started immediately after the July 4 holiday and finish in August or early September.  The stipend is $5,000. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The University of Vermont Bailey/Howe Library seeks a creative, energetic, and user-oriented librarian to lead its Information and Instruction Services Department. Serving a student body of nearly 12,000 degree students, Bailey/Howe Library plays a vital role in the Universityâ€™s commitment to liberal education, environment, health, and public service. In a time of changing expectations for information services and technology, the Director of Information and Instruction Services will lead a talented team of librarians by building teamwork, setting goals, and exploring innovative approaches to information and instruction services.</p>
<p><span id="more-802"></span>The Information and Instruction Services Department includes the Reference unit, the Government Documents and Maps unit, the library instruction program, and the library liaison program. Supervising 8<br />
faculty librarians and 5 staff members, the Director reports to the Dean of Libraries and Learning Resources and participates in planning and policy-making for the Libraries as a member of the Deanâ€™s Council. He or she will work collaboratively with the other units in the libraries: Resource Description &amp; Analysis; Acquisitions, Preservation/End Processing, and Collection Development; Research Collections; Technology and Access Services; and the Dana Medical Library.</p>
<p>Responsibilities include developing, articulating, and implementing vision and strategic goals for the Department; participating in library-wide strategic planning; facilitating a participatory decision-making processes; initiating and overseeing innovative, user-centered programs and services in reference and information literacy to meet the information needs of the library&#8217;s users; mentoring faculty and staff; overseeing development and management of extensive reference, government documents, and maps collections; participating in providing reference service (including some evenings and weekends), library instruction, and other department services; and building effective partnerships and outreach with appropriate on- and off-campus units, programs, and faculty.</p>
<p>The Bailey/Howe Library is the main library at the University of Vermont (UVM), the largest institution of higher education in the state. Located in Burlington on scenic Lake Champlain, the University of Vermont was chartered in 1791 and is the fifth-oldest university in New England. UVMâ€™s undergraduate, graduate, and medical students are enrolled in nine schools and colleges offering 97 bachelorâ€™s, 53 masterâ€™s, and 22 doctoral programs.</p>
<p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS degree from ALA-accredited program; minimum 7 yearsâ€™ professional experience with progressive responsibilities; demonstrated leadership skills and management experience; excellent facilitation, interpersonal relations, and communication skills; demonstrated success in supervision, mentoring, and planning; reference and library instruction experience; broad knowledge of trends in reference and information services and issues in higher education; demonstrated knowledge of the range of technologies used to effectively deliver information resources and services; scholarly and creative accomplishments and service commitment commensurate with appointment to at least the level of Library Associate Professor; commitment to diversity and inclusion, to be demonstrated in writing in the cover letter. <p>APPOINTMENT, SALARY, AND BENEFITS: Appointment will be made at the faculty rank of Library Associate Professor or Library Professor (non-tenure track). Salary is commensurate with experience, not less than $75,000. Benefit package includes TIAA/CREF or alternate plan, managed health care plan, and 22 days of annual vacation leave.</p>
