			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://gmlc.wordpress.com/">Green Mountain Library Consortium</a> (GMLC) is seeking a Development Coordinator for a short-term stipended position.</p>
<p>The Development Coordinator is responsible for researching funding sources and grants that the GMLC could apply for to provide funding for digital content, staffing &#038; benefits and technical support.  Ideal grants would be multi-year  in the realm of $200,000 &#8211; $250,000.  These may include LSTA grants, funding from the stimulus package etc. In addition, the Development Coordinator will write at least one grant for $10,000 &#8211; $20,000 for digital content.  Successful applicant will be independent, smart, highly self-motivated and forward thinking.  Familiarity with library service philosophy, digital media and open source software a plus.  </p>
<p>The GMLC is looking for someone who can get started immediately after the July 4 holiday and finish in August or early September.  The stipend is $5,000. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The University of Vermont Bailey/Howe Library seeks a creative, energetic, and user-oriented librarian to lead its Information and Instruction Services Department. Serving a student body of nearly 12,000 degree students, Bailey/Howe Library plays a vital role in the Universityâ€™s commitment to liberal education, environment, health, and public service. In a time of changing expectations for information services and technology, the Director of Information and Instruction Services will lead a talented team of librarians by building teamwork, setting goals, and exploring innovative approaches to information and instruction services.</p>
<p><span id="more-802"></span>The Information and Instruction Services Department includes the Reference unit, the Government Documents and Maps unit, the library instruction program, and the library liaison program. Supervising 8<br />
faculty librarians and 5 staff members, the Director reports to the Dean of Libraries and Learning Resources and participates in planning and policy-making for the Libraries as a member of the Deanâ€™s Council. He or she will work collaboratively with the other units in the libraries: Resource Description &amp; Analysis; Acquisitions, Preservation/End Processing, and Collection Development; Research Collections; Technology and Access Services; and the Dana Medical Library.</p>
<p>Responsibilities include developing, articulating, and implementing vision and strategic goals for the Department; participating in library-wide strategic planning; facilitating a participatory decision-making processes; initiating and overseeing innovative, user-centered programs and services in reference and information literacy to meet the information needs of the library&#8217;s users; mentoring faculty and staff; overseeing development and management of extensive reference, government documents, and maps collections; participating in providing reference service (including some evenings and weekends), library instruction, and other department services; and building effective partnerships and outreach with appropriate on- and off-campus units, programs, and faculty.</p>
<p>The Bailey/Howe Library is the main library at the University of Vermont (UVM), the largest institution of higher education in the state. Located in Burlington on scenic Lake Champlain, the University of Vermont was chartered in 1791 and is the fifth-oldest university in New England. UVMâ€™s undergraduate, graduate, and medical students are enrolled in nine schools and colleges offering 97 bachelorâ€™s, 53 masterâ€™s, and 22 doctoral programs.</p>
<p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS degree from ALA-accredited program; minimum 7 yearsâ€™ professional experience with progressive responsibilities; demonstrated leadership skills and management experience; excellent facilitation, interpersonal relations, and communication skills; demonstrated success in supervision, mentoring, and planning; reference and library instruction experience; broad knowledge of trends in reference and information services and issues in higher education; demonstrated knowledge of the range of technologies used to effectively deliver information resources and services; scholarly and creative accomplishments and service commitment commensurate with appointment to at least the level of Library Associate Professor; commitment to diversity and inclusion, to be demonstrated in writing in the cover letter. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The University of Vermont Librariesâ€™ Center for Digital Initiatives (CDI, <a href="http://cdi.uvm.edu/" target="_blank">http://cdi.uvm.edu/</a>) seeks a detail-oriented, innovative, and energetic librarian for the position of Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian.  The Institute for Museum and Library Services has recently awarded the University of Vermont a 24-month grant to continue development of the Librariesâ€™ digital initiatives.  The main goal of this grant is to build a user community for the CDI that will engage as active participants in the development of the CDI and the content and services it provides.  The Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian will provide expertise and leadership in the creation and maintenance of metadata for digital content acquired or created by the CDI.  The Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian will help to develop, refine, and implement policies, procedures, workflows, and metadata standards for the CDI; manage digitization projects; and participate in the overall management of the CDI.</p>
<p><span id="more-615"></span><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES: </strong>Provides expertise and leadership in the creation and maintenance of metadata for digital content acquired or created by the CDI; provides descriptive, technical, and structural metadata for digital content; evaluates and maintains quality control of metadata operations; trains and supports metadata staff; maintains documentation on metadata best practices; analyzes metadata needs and provides estimated metadata costs and timeline for proposed projects; designs, implements, and manages project workflows;collaborates with CDI and Libraries staff in selection of digital projects and content; participates in the management of the CDI; promotes and reports on CDI activities to local, regional, and national communities; represents the CDI in professional and campus organizations and initiatives.</p>
<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</strong> Masterâ€™s degree from an ALA-accredited program or foreign equivalent; experience with metadata work on digital projects; experience with XML.; experience with standards-based non-MARC metadata schemas, such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS, EAD and TEI; knowledge of MARC; familiarity with controlled vocabularies, such as LCSH, AAT, LCTGM, GNIS, and TGN; demonstrated project management experience; excellent attention to detail; ability to work independently and in a team environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; commitment to professional achievement and growth; commitment to diversity and inclusion.</p>
<p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: </strong> Working knowledge of digital asset management systems; demonstrated understanding of preservation metadata, such as PREMIS; experience in crosswalking, normalizing, and transforming xml metadata; working knowledge of XSLT.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Kellogg Hubbard Library is the second most active library in Vermont, serving a population of about 18,000 including the city of Montpelier and five surrounding towns. There are 15 full and part-time staff positions.</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p>The Library Director is the key leader in maintaining the Kellogg-Hubbardâ€™s tradition of outstanding public service and innovative program offerings.   The Library Director ensures the overall smooth operation of library services to the public including management of library collections. Supervises twelve full and part-time staff.  Participates in the planning and budget process with the Executive Director, Library Board, and committees.</p>
<p><span id="more-564"></span>The Library Director works closely with the Executive Director (who is separately responsible for fundraising, financial management and planning) to promote library services to the communities it serves.  Works directly with town agencies, state organizations and community groups on library funding and cooperation.  Both the Executive Director and Library Director report directly to the Library Board of Trustees.<br />
<strong><br />
Qualifications </strong></p>
<p>M.L.S. from an accredited university program, with 5 or more years of public library management experience.   Applicants should be energetic leaders with a strong commitment to public service.  The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with strong written, inter-personal and verbal communication skills.  Applicants should be familiar with current library and information technology.</p>
<p><strong>Compensation</strong></p>
<p>This is a full-time salaried position with benefits.  Salary range starts at $50,000 or higher, depending upon qualifications and experience.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Union Institute &amp; University, a national university for adult learners offering programs of study leading to bachelorâ€™s, masterâ€™s and doctoral degrees is seeking an experienced individual for a combination Systems Librarian / Technologist position vacancy at its Montpelier Vermont academic center.</p>
<p>Primary responsibilities include management and maintenance of library automation technologies, including proxy server, EOS integrated library system, research database web links, link resolver tools, and other electronic resources and utilities.  This person will also share in the design and maintenance of the library website and will troubleshoot library software and network/server problems.  S/he will work to bring new technologies to library users and will provide training in same. S/he will also serve as our universityâ€™s Computer Services staff liaison for its three Vermont academic centers by maintaining/updating computer lab pcs, staff and faculty office pcs, and related office productivity equipment.</p>
<p><span id="more-558"></span>Other responsibilities include sharing in the provision of library public services (especially reference and instruction), serving on appropriate university committees/task forces, and assisting the library director in planning for a transition to a fully virtual library system, scheduled for implementation in 2011.</p>
<p>Requirements</p>
<p>1. An ALA-accredited Masters in Library Science degree<br />
2. Several years of experience in library systems and automation technologies work, preferably in a college or university setting<br />
3. Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, and a commitment to the principles and practices of information literacy<br />
4. Familiarity or experience with Web 2.0 library applications, open source library software systems and associated programming languages</p>
<p>This is a full time (35 hours per week) position with a target hiring date of July 1, 2009.</p>
