Teen Services Specialist – Howe Public Library (Hanover, NH)

Howe Library in Hanover, NH, awarded honorable mention for “Best Small Library in America” by Library Journal and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2007, is seeking an experienced and energetic paraprofessional as Youth Services Library Assistant / Teen Specialist. Major duties of this position include:

  • Planning and implementing programs and activities for teen library patrons
  • Maintaining a welcoming library environment for teens
  • Collaborating with area schools, Hanover Recreation Department, and other community institutions to promote teen activities
  • Organizing a Teen Advisory Board and holding regular meetings
  • Coordinating volunteer projects
  • Recommending books and materials to teens and parents
  • Creating book displays, bulletin boards and other publicity materials
  • Selecting collections

The Youth Services Library Assistant / Teen Specialist works under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian. The preferred candidate will have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, some library experience, strong technology skills, and a minimum of three years working with teens including experience planning and conducting programs for this age group. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

This part-time (17 hours per week; 40 weeks per year), non-benefits eligible position pays an hourly rate of $19.47.
