Each year, Young Writers Project distributes writing prompts for Vermont and New Hampshire students, K-12, and the students respond to the prompts in school and after school on our web site, youngwritersproject.org.
We receive a tremendous response from young people when they are informed about these prompts, so we are hoping that you can help us get the word out in your community by posting the prompts on your bulletin boards, on your web sites and anywhere that you think the kids will see them. The link to the prompts is http://youngwritersproject.
The best of the students’ writing is then published in our Newspapers Series in partnership with 20 newspapers in Vermont as well as the Valley News in Lebanon, NH. One student’s work is also featured each week on VPR.net — and at the end of the school year, a team of judges chooses the best of the best for our annual Anthology, a bound book that celebrates these talented writers.
Young Writers Project (YWP) engages young people in writing, reading and general communications that can be both creative and practical. We are an independent nonprofit with a mission to encourage students to write, help them improve and connect them with authentic audiences through the Newspaper Series, monthly poetry slams and events with other arts and community organizations through the year. YWP also leads the Schools Project (ywpschools.net), a comprehensive online classroom and training program that works with teachers to help students develop their writing and digital literacy skills.
