Ilsley is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Circulation Librarian to help shape the future of our collections and public access efforts. The Circulation Librarian is responsible for overseeing all circulation activities and supervises one part-time regular staff member as well as several work-study students and substitutes. This position is public-facing, interacting with library patrons every day and setting the standard for stellar customer service. As a member of the library’s leadership team, this position plays an important role in the ongoing implementation and evaluation of the library’s mission and strategic plan. The staff at Ilsley Public Library work collaboratively on many library services, and this position will contribute to collection development and outreach efforts.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated knowledge of the principals and practices of effective library management; knowledge and skill in effective employee supervision and management, including a willingness to mentor, train, and inspire staff; and will love working with people and have a passion for customer service.
About the Ilsley Public Library
Established in 1848, Ilsley Public Library serves Middlebury, Vermont and its surrounding towns with a staff of four professional librarians, eight staff members, and many dedicated substitutes, work study students, and volunteers. The library’s staff is its greatest asset, and as such continual professional development is expected and supported. Its collection consists of more than 80,000 items with an annual circulation of over 160,000 and a total operating budget of over $700,000. It is consistently ranked among the top public libraries in the state for its high program attendance and overall number of visits. Ilsley also administers a branch library, the Sarah Partridge Library, which serves East Middlebury. Ilsley works in close collaboration with Middlebury Community Television, Middlebury College, town government, area schools, and a variety of business and not-for-profit community partners.
Salary and Benefits
The established salary range for this position is $44,000-$54,000. This is a full-time non-union position (40 hrs/wk), and provides a comprehensive benefits package.
