The Outreach Librarian oversees library service to those persons in the Barre
City/Barre Town area with special needs. At present, these needs are served by home delivery of
library materials to the homebound. The Outreach Librarian is responsible for insuring that this
service runs smoothly. Supervised by the Library Director.
Maintains contact with Outreach patrons
Visits new patrons to set up delivery
Contacts Outreach patrons periodically to see how things are going
Maintains a team of volunteer drivers
Recruits and trains new drivers as needed
Maintains a delivery schedule for volunteer drivers
Arranges for substitutes to deliver materials as needed
Selects library materials for Outreach clients each week
Supervises the process of checking materials in and out
Fills special requests for Outreach patrons
Communicates as needed with Special Services at Midstate Regional Library
Reports regularly on Outreach program
Tracks circulation and patron statistics
Prepares annual report on Outreach activities
Attends biweekly staff meetings
Attends conferences and workshops as time and interest permit
Makes suggestions for improved library practices and operations
Reports problems to the Circulation Librarian or Library Director
Carries out other tasks as requested by the Library Director

The Outreach Librarian must have the ability to speak with patrons about reading interests and provide
reader’s advisory, using online resources and tools as necessary.
This Class II, technical level position, requires at least a 2-year college degree
a Vermont State Library Certificate, a Library Information Sciences degree (anticipated or completed) OR
2 years’ relevant library experience.
