This position is 25 hours a week and includes two evenings and one Saturday per month. The Programming Librarian develops and plans Library Programming for our library community both online (in the present moment) and in person (when this becomes possible).
Qualities we seek in an ideal candidate include: imagination, a spirit of collaboration, adaptability, kindness, and a willingness to work as part of a team. Ideally, you are bursting with ideas about creative ways to connect to our community while we all hang out at home. When in-person activities become less risky, you are poised & ready to support and schedule real life events that engage our audiences.
Preferred skills: good working knowledge of computer systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable with using social media & the internet to amplify the message of our programming and knows how to update a spreadsheet, make a good looking flyer & edit a webpage. Knowledge of Koha, Squarespace, Instagram/Facebook, Zoom, Canva and related skills are a bonus, but adaptable learners are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities: in addition to scheduling activities and managing the adult programming budget, you will maintain records of attendance at our events and serve as the point person for requests to use our public spaces. You will update and maintain our community calendar (and event listings on our website). We are also looking for a candidate who can support collection development, and who is adaptable enough to be able to process an interlibrary loan request or update a catalog record. Adaptability, care and kindness are our leading values as an organization. Some of your scheduled hours will include work with the public (and require that you assist in checking out books & helping patrons locate relevant resources).
Preferred Qualifications: a college degree and previous library, educational or programming experience is helpful. Obviously training and experience in fields related to librarianship is preferred but well-rounded brains from any life experience are welcome to apply. We are looking for a candidate who can express themselves well in writing and in person, and who has a passion for working with folks of all ages and backgrounds. If you are an interesting match, please use your cover letter to speak to how you think your skills align with the needs of our organization.
To Apply: Send a cover letter, resume and contact information for two references to library@carpentercarse.org This position is open until filled but the priority deadline is October 16, 2020.
