The Stowe Free Library is seeking a goal-oriented, enthusiastic and positive individual to fill the position of Assistant Director & Adult Services Librarian to help take the lead in fulfilling our mission: “To Welcome, To Inspire, To Enrich the Mind.” The librarian in this position assumes full responsibility for the functioning of the library in the absence of the Director; assists in goal setting and supervision of staff and volunteers; plans, develops, and provides adult library programming; manages the library’s inter-library loan; supervises and assists staff with other library services and office activities. Stowe Free Library is a cherished community institution and has 6,400 registered borrowers and 25,000 volumes in its collection. An American Library Association accredited Master Degree in Library Science or related field, with three years of experience in library operations, budgeting, and employee supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. A working knowledge and experience with computers, including Integrated Library
Systems (ILS), the Inter-Library Loan system in Vermont, content and web-based applications, current technologies, public access networks, and adult programming is desired. Good verbal communication skills and ability to interact with the public, excellent organizational skills and ability to perform detailed work, and the physical ability to lift and shelve books is required. This position includes evenings and Saturday hours, comes with excellent benefits and a starting salary of $24.03 – 30.75 per hour, contingent upon qualifications and experience.

Assistant Director/Youth Services Librarian – Milton Public Library (Milton, VT)

Milton Public Library in Milton, VT is seeking an assistant director/youth services librarian. This person would join a dynamic and experienced library community that includes a new Director and a highly skilled, long term, library services team. This is a full-time, benefitted position.

The assistant director assumes full responsibility for the functioning of the library in the absence of the Director; provides friendly, timely, courteous service to library patrons; assists in supervising volunteers and other staff members; assists the Director in carrying out technical and administrative duties; implements the library’s strategic plan, vision, and goals; conducts special projects as requested by the Director; and fosters team building and participatory management.

The youth services librarian is responsible for planning, developing, and providing library services to children and young adults; performs professional duties requiring extensive knowledge of library operations; works with the Director to prepare goals and objectives for youth services; develops budgets and grant requests for youth services; plans, conducts, and oversees programming for youth ages 0 to 18; performs collection development and serves as a specialist in children’s literature and reference; provides outreach services to area day cares, pre-schools, K-12 schools, afterschool programs, camps, and other community groups. The youth services librarian supervises library assistants, teen volunteers, the teen librarian, the outreach librarian, and the summer library aide.

The ideal candidate is flexible, adaptable, and possesses excellent communication skills. Project management skills to plan and implement programs for children of all ages is desired.  Strong technology skills are beneficial, plus an ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others.   • Catalogs all materials and maintains library’s OPAC and oversees materials for processing.
