Gerette Buglion is the author of  An Everyday Cult, a narrative non-fiction that weaves cult dynamics with her personal memoir. As a lifelong educator, Gerette was humbled when she emerged from a controlling group at age 54 after an 18 year odyssey with a charismatic teacher. She asked herself, How did I, an educated, caring mother, wife and business owner, become that lost and for that long? Gerette dusted off her discerning mind and set to work studying cultic dynamics and mind control while reclaiming her autonomy with the help of a supportive family, excellent therapy and countless hours immersed in nature. An Everyday Cult will be released in May 2021 by Rootstock Publishing.

Gerette has attended and presented at the annual conference for ICSA, the International Cultic Studies Association for the last five years. She and her husband, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, co-facilitate a cult recovery support group. Buglion also  launched and co-facilitated Cults & Culture, a year long community discussion forum at Morristown Centennial Library. Gerette is a regular contributor to Medium, most recently publishing an article titled, https://gerette.medium.com/hoodwinked-by-qanon-585c3998d108 Also in 2020, Vermont based newspaper Seven Days, featured a story about her work titled A Cult Awareness Educator Helps Survivors by Sharing Her Own Cautionary Tale. Gerette is not publicly naming the small self-help group that she was a part of. Rather than strive to take down her ex-leader and group, her goals center around providing support, promoting understanding, and dispelling the notion that anyone intentionally joins a destructive cult.
