Library Assistant/Paraeducator – Burlington High School (Burlington, VT)

The Burlington High School Library seeks a creative, self motivated individual to assist students and staff in an active 21st century library.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Circulation tasks, cataloging, shelving, inter library loans

  • Collection maintenance

  • Creating displays, and interactive programming

  • Helping students with research, finding books.

  • Assisting students and staff with technology needs.

  • Some ordering.

  • Being the substitute when the librarian is absent.

  • Student supervision and behavior management.

  • Physical responsibilities include lifting, carrying, and the ability to assess a situation and respond quickly.

QUALIFICATIONS include but not limited to:

  • High school diploma plus at least 2 years of additional education

  • Minimum of two years experience in education or related field

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents and school staff.

  • Previous library experience preferred.

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the Burlington School District.

Youth Services Assistant — Norwich Public Library (Norwich, VT)

The Norwich Public Library seeks an energetic and dedicated individual who is interested in joining our team. We are a busy library and are looking for a passionate Youth Services Assistant to become a part of our community! This position will focus on providing services and programming in the Children’s Room, but will also work within other library areas as needed.

Our ideal candidate will assist in creating and providing engaging programs for all ages (infant to teens), such as Story Times, summer reading, and family crafts – as well as brainstorming new and exciting ideas for the future. They will be creative, flexible, have a passion for children’s literature; be tech savvy, friendly and approachable to all ages.

Other job responsibilities include: community outreach, maintaining statistics, general upkeep of displays and playspace, and supporting the overall mission of the library.

This is a part-time, 20 hours per week position, reporting to the Children’s Librarian. College degree and three years of working with children are essential. Library experience, familiarity with automated circulation systems, Microsoft office products and Google Drive are a plus!

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of youth literature, both classics and current trends.
  • Capacity to nurture and respect children in order to develop lifelong readers.
  • The ideal candidate must possess the ability to develop and deliver excellent customer service in a fun, warm, and welcoming environment for youth of all ages.
  • A positive attitude, flexibility, the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, and a sense of humor are important.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 12:00-5:30 with flexibility to shift some hours to weekends or evenings as needed for programming.

Compensation: Pay commensurate with experience. This position does provide vacation and sick leave benefits.

Library Aide III for Technology and Outreach- Abbott Library (Sunapee, NH)

The Abbott Library is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and friendly individual to complete our hard-working team! This part-time position will be scheduled to work 34 hours per week.

Preference will be given to applicants who are willing and able to work full time in the future as the Board of Trustees recently voted to place a warrant article on the Town of Sunapee ballot in March of 2020 to make this a full-time, benefited position. The Abbott Library enjoys tremendous support from its community and is a welcoming and professional environment.

General library duties will include assisting patrons, shelving, registering new patrons, data entry and special projects. Additional duties will include the publication of a bi-weekly newsletter, the maintenance of the library’s website and social media presence and the implementation of curriculum from Digital Learn and other on-line resources to lead technology classes for our patrons.

Additional duties could include assisting with the development and maintenance of the adult collection and other programming initiatives. Candidates should be personable, cheerful, professional, and enjoy working with the public. Candidates must have computer skills and Internet searching skills.
